InstallFest 101
Care and Feeding of your own InstallFest
The DC-LUG has held 7 or so Installfests over the last 4 years. Come join a discussion on running one in your area, and what we've learned works and what doesn't....
If your group has already held an InstallFest, come join the panel.

BOFH BOF
This is the modern-day version of sitting around the campfire telling scary stories. Come hear and tell horror stories about lusers who drove you nuts, vendors who wouldn't behave and other tales of sysadmin life.
More information is at

Running Linux Users Groups
Steven and Kara Pritchard maintain 3 Linux Users Groups across Illinois. Their latest adventure is the Springfield Perl Mongers! Come and discuss with other LUG Presidents the do's and dont's of running a successful Linux User Group.

Parallel Computing / Introduction of OPUS
This BOF is to talk about parallel computing through clusters, such as with Beowulf. It will also be an introduction of a project to develop OPUS (Open Parallel Unified System). OPUS is an attempt to produce a well unified supercomputer from many commodity PCs running Linux. OPUS is an expansion of Beowulf to create the appearance to the application layer of a single computer instead of a cluster.

OPUS incorporates most parallel computing concepts and it is in the context of these concepts that we wish to discuss OPUS.

Contractors and consultants for Linux
Independent contractors and consultants who like Linux (whether or not they have recommended it) discuss issues such as deciding whether or not Linux is appropriate for a client, how to and whether to persuade clients who should be using Linux (or other open-source software) but are reluctant, resources for developing custom software with Linux, starting an email list for indies, or whatever else is on anyone's mind.

CVS
We know why you're coming to the ALS -- because you want to talk about version control! After attending Lars Wirenzius' sure-to-be-excellent talk on CVS earlier in the day, why not stop by and visit the CVS BOF? We'll talk a bit about the new features in the 1.10 (Halibut) release, discuss future directions for CVS, and do a little Q and A. This is a great opportunity to meet the current CVS maintainers (Cyclic Software) and schmooze with a bunch of people who hack on and use CVS. Join us!

Motion Video for Linux
A URL or description if you wish:
html://pcisys.net/~vleo/linuxvideo.html Hardware available, drivers approaches, software available. I can tell a lot on hardware aspects, some on drivers, less on software. Can demo some video capture/playback action on Linux PC.

Berlin
This BOF will include discussion of the berlin system which we have developed over the past year, where we're going with it, and of course the interactive part of getting new ideas from people who are interested in helping out. Berlin is a Corba and OpenGL based windowing system which runs native on ggi, and thus on the /dev/fb in the new linux kernels. No X is required, although it runs inside X fine.
