1998 Atlanta Linux Showcase, Conference and Exhibits ATLANTA, Ga. - The Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts, in conjunction with Linux International, are planning the second annual Atlanta Linux Showcase to be held October 23 - 24, 1998 immediately following NetWorld+Interop in Atlanta, GA. The Showcase will feature two days of Linux talks, vendor exhibits, BOFs, and a great atmosphere for discussing all aspects of the Linux operating system. The Atlanta Linux Showcase will be held at the Atlanta Market Center, in the heart of downtown Atlanta. This facility is conveniently located within blocks of mass transit and the Georgia World Congress Center (site of NetWorld+Interop 98). The initial list of speakers includes Jon "maddog" Hall, Miguel de Icaza, Bruce Perens and Eric S. Raymond. The keynote address will be given by Dr. Michael Cowpland, President and CEO of Corel. Conference topics include commentary on Open Source software, Linux kernel internals, Linux in Business, Linux Applications and Windows NT Integration. Online registration will open July 1, 1998. Last year's show attracted a record number of exhibitors. By more than doubling the exhibit and conference space and with national advertising, this year's expected attendance is between 1000 and 2000 people. Much of the booth space has already been booked by new and returning exhibitors, and interested vendors are encouraged to contact the Atlanta Linux Showcase for booth reservations immediately. Many opportunities for vendors to sponsor speakers and to contribute hardware and services to the show are also available. Activities for attendees will begin on October 22nd with the opening of registration at 3PM, and free Birds-of-a-Feather sessions will run into the late evening. The BOFs provide the opportunity for attendees to educate and entertain each other. The conference sessions and show floor will be open from 9AM - 5PM on Friday and Saturday, with additional BOF sessions running until late night on Friday.
